Un rayon de miel sera doux \u00e0 ton palais. De m\u00eame, connais la sagesse pour ton \u00e2me ; si tu la trouves, il est un avenir, et ton esp\u00e9rance ne sera pas an\u00e9antie.<\/em> <\/p>\n– Proverbes 24:13-14<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Lorsque j’\u00e9tais adolescente, une nuit, je fis un r\u00eave. J’errais dans un manoir aussi vaste qu’ancien, et je marchais dans un long corridor ponctu\u00e9 de portes qui apparaissaient et disparaissaient \u00e0 leur guise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Une porte s’ouvrit alors que je passais \u00e0 c\u00f4t\u00e9 d’elle. Je vis une petite \u00e9choppe, toute de bois clair faite, une pi\u00e8ce sans fen\u00eatre dans un chalet o\u00f9 des pr\u00e9sentoirs exposaient des rayons de miel, des alv\u00e9oles arrang\u00e9s de mani\u00e8re complexe, et tous les prix indiqu\u00e9s sur les \u00e9tiquettes, bien qu’illisibles – \u00e9critures comme les reves savent si bien en produire – \u00e9taient, je le r\u00e9alisai bien vite, tr\u00e8s loin au-dessus de mes moyens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Au centre de la pi\u00e8ce se trouvait un \u00e9norme chaudron de miel, qui se touillait tout seul. Je m’y penchai pour observer, et je vis un tourbillon o\u00f9 se m\u00e9langeaient, dans la suavit\u00e9 et l’ambre, des galaxies, des n\u00e9buleuses, les piliers de la cr\u00e9ation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

C’est alors que les trois marchands apparurent. L’un jeune, l’autre tr\u00e8s vieux, le troisi\u00e8me entre deux \u00e2ges et en bleu de travail. Ils examinaient ma librairie de jeune fille, qui s’\u00e9tait mat\u00e9rialis\u00e9e dans un coin de la pi\u00e8ce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apr\u00e8s quelques questions dont je ne me souviens pas, ils eurent un myt\u00e9rieux conciliabule, pench\u00e9s et enlac\u00e9s les uns aux autres comme dans une m\u00eal\u00e9e de rugby. Une fois mis d’accord, ils se retourn\u00e8rent et me firent don d’un petit seau d’enfant jaune qui ne payait pas de mine. Je pouvais me servir, dirent-ils, au puits d’inspiration. Gratuitement. Et si je me trouvais un jour \u00e0 court de ce miel, je pourrais revenir pour en prendre encore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sur ce, je me suis r\u00e9veill\u00e9e.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When I was a teenager, I had a dream one night. I was a wanderer in a manor, as vast as ancient, and walked in a long corridor punctuated by doors, which appeared and disappeared as they pleased.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A door opened as I walked past. I saw a small shop made entirely of light wood, a windowless chalet room where shelves displayed honeycombs, cells arranged in complex ways, and all the prices indicated on the labels, although illegible – dreams are customary of it – I realized that the prices were well above my means.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the center of the room, a vast cauldron of honey stirred on its own. I bent down to observe, and I saw a whirlpool where a set of galaxies, nebulae, the pillars of creation, all suffused with amber and smoothness, mingled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That’s when the three merchants appeared. One young, the other very old, the third middle-aged and in overalls. They were examining my young person’s library, which had materialized in the corner of the room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a few questions which I no longer remember, they had a mysterious confabulation between them, leaning over and embracing each other as in a rugby scrum. Once agreed, they turned around and gave me a little yellow child’s bucket that didn’t look like much. I could help myself, they said, to the well of inspiration. And for free. If I ever ran out of this honey, I could come back for more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And then, I woke up.<\/p>\n
